We can offer you the use of many brass or percussion instruments. Choice includes drums, cymbals, trumpets, trombones, tenor horns, euphoniums and bell lyres. We will teach you how to play your instrument to a standard which will allow you to compete with other bands throughout the country...and win! Many of our tutors have been in the band since they were 10, and are now over 30 years old! We do not expect you to have played an instrument before, but we are always looking for new recruits which have already played a brass instrument or drum before. The band is also renowned for its traditional marching and precision drill. The first thing that we teach our new recruits is how to march correctly and smartly. We want to make sure that you are proud to march in the bands uniform.
We supply you with one of the smartest and well known uniforms in the country. We teach you how to maintain your instrument, look after your uniform and clean your shoes and buckles until you can see your face in them! You will also be performing around the country, in carnivals, tattoos and competitions. Throughout the years, we have had much success in competitions, having beaten most other bands. Each band member receives a medal every time they win a competition. The band practices on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. To join the HDTC, come
along to one of our band practice sessions at the Robert Beard Youth Centre,
