Between 1964 and 1969 the band continued to win countless trophies, but also had a hard time trying to find a headquarters. The popularity of the band had spread, and they were in great demand. The band had started to try new things, one of which, a guitar section, turned into a success, especially when accompanied by their singing bandmaster, Bob Stables! Not happy with taking the UK by storm, 1969 saw the band compete in an international band contest in Amsterdam. In front of over 10,000 people, including Queen Julianna, the band beat 15 other competitors from Holland, Germany and France to become the Supremo Champions. In only 10 years, the Hornchurch Drum & Trumpet Corps had become one of the most feared and respected bands in the UK. |
