| History of HDTC - The Beginning (1959-1969) |
| The band continued its
success in 1961, winning contests throughout the country including the
Middlesex, Romford, Colchester and Birmingham band contests. 1961 was also
the year
that the Hornchurch Drum and Trumpet Corps became musicians of the year and won their first of seven star awards for music, the highest award of any musical group, at the Royal Festival Hall, London.
Not only were the band there to open
the show with a fanfare (below), they were also augmenting the Band of
the Irish Guards!
